Contrary to popular belief, a doctor of Osteopathy is not a Bone Doctor. Osteopathy is
not a branch of medicine. Rather, it is an approach, specifically a holistic approach to treat the body as a
whole. Osteopaths are first and foremost — Physicians.
Physicians today are either MDs (Allopaths) or DOs (Osteopaths). Both are medically and/or
surgically trained, boarded, and licensed identically. DOs, as MDs, offer the full range of
medical or surgical specialties.
An Osteopath, or DO, has additional training in the musculoskeletal system, offering yet another treatment modality
when appropriate. While we still take care of your high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, etc... in
the same manner dictated by the standard of care, we may differ in offering alternative approaches to your back, muscle,
or joint pain based upon Osteopathic principles.
